The Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda has confirmed that the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), John Dekyem Attafuah, has been relieved of his position with immediate effect almost two years after his appointment.
Explaining to the media in Accra on Friday, the Minister said the decision was made by President Akufo-Addo and the Board of GACL has been given the green light to initiate processes for a replacement for him.
The Deputy Managing Director, Yaw Kwakwa will run the affairs of the GACL until a substantive MD is appointed.
Attafuah took over from Charles Asare who left his post at the airports management company in March 2017. Attafuah, who served as the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) between 2005 and 2009, and was the boss of Virtual Access Limited– a market research company—prior to his appointment.
He has over three decades of experience in the energy, services, Information Technology (IT) and pharmaceuticals.
John Dekyem Attafuah holds a degree in Computer Science and Statistics, from University of Ghana, Legon and a Master of Science degree, in Systems Development, from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
