The Ghana Tourism Authority, Tema Regional Office, has presented assorted confectioneries to the Brigitte and Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation in Ada, as part of activities marking this year’s Valentine’s Day.
The items include chocolates, cookies and drinking water from the Cocoa Processing Company, Niche Cocoa and Nero Mineral Water.
Mr. Charles Buabin, Manager, GTA Tema Region, explained that the donation forms part of an annual event designed by the Ghana Tourism Authority to mark the National Chocolate Day celebration.
“Other regional office on the national chocolate day have their itinerary on how the day is marked. We at the Tema office decided to share chocolates and other items to underprivileged children at this foundation” Mr. Buabin said.
He noted that the Tema Regional Office would consider the establishment of a tourist club at the foundation in order to further deepen the interest of the children on issues concerning tourism.
Country Manager of the Foundation, Mr. Frank Nkansah, noted that the foundation has facilities and amenities that provides respite for the children.
He explained that most of the children are allowed to attend classes from their homes so that it would be easier to integrate them into the society.
“That is the reason why we don’t camp them in the school. The reason is to enable them to have a touch with the community while giving them the opportunity to learn,” Mr. Nkansah said.
At the event, the children participated in a quiz competition on the history of cocoa in Ghana, its processing and consumption, and were awarded with products.
