The organizers of the first-ever-of-its-kind Ghana Industry CEO Awards 2018 have announced the commencement of nominations for the potential winners of the maiden edition of the event. According to a press release issued in Accra by the organizers, The Business Executive Ltd., nominations which opened Tuesday September 4th will run till Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
Indeed, the organizers confirm that the response, with regards to nominations has been enthusiastic right from the day nominations opened and have far exceeded their original expectations. Within the first four days several thousands of nominations had already been received, the majority of them third party nominations, on behalf of nearly one thousand CEOs of enterprises located all around the country.
The awards, which will subsequently be conferred annually aim at identifying and publicly recognizing the most outstanding CEOs across 19 delineated sectors of the economy, with a view to encouraging improved corporate governance and institutional leadership standards in the country. Winners and both the first and second runners up in each sector will be honoured at a red carpet buffet dinner awards ceremony scheduled for November 23 in Accra.
“In management, the concept of reward occupies an important position in the mix of incentives employed to achieve progressively improving performance of employees. The same result is also consistent when applied to leadership. It is from this philosophical background that we have conceived the idea of these Ghana Industry CEO Awards,” the Chief Executive officer of The Business Executive Ltd., Paulette Kporo, was quoted as saying.
She explained further: “The best way to appreciate this award concept is simply to think of it as a reward system – a public reward system – to recognize and reward corporate leadership in an uncommon way.”
Nominations are by the general public – both self nominations and third party nominations are allowed – which will be the first step in a thorough and painstaking process through which the eventual winners will be determined. After the closure of nominations, a dedicated team of research consultants will conduct due diligence and verify the claims made in the nominations, and from this will derive a short list of nominees who will subsequently be voted for by the general public in a process which will last from October 5 to October 19.
AA&K Services an indigenous auditing and management consultancy firm, rated “A” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana [ICAG] will serve as voting validators and indeed have the mandate to supervise and ensure the integrity of the entire voting process.
Nominations can be made through a dedicated website established by The Business Executive Ltd., for the awards at the address: https://ghiceoawards.com/nominate-now.php The website sets out criteria that will be considered in assessing nominations received. These include evidence of outstanding professional and leadership conduct by nominees, level of expertise, commitment to good corporate governance and to fiscal and corporate social responsibility and actual accomplishments, both professional and managerial.
Nominees will be drawn from CEOs of both privately owned and public enterprises – but not government bureaucratic institutions and non-profit social and religious institutions. Furthermore, they must be CEOs of enterprises that are members of the Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ghana Club 100 or listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
The categories to be awarded are: Banking; Non-bank finance institutions; Insurance; Transport; Real Estate/Construction; ICT/Telecom; Manufacturing; Extractive industries; Agriculture; Energy and utilities; Professional services; Retail; Health; Education; Tourism and Hospitality; Media (Press & Advertising); Arts & Entertainment; Overall Best Male CEO of the year; Overall Female CEO of the year.
According to Paulette Kporo, they are expecting hundreds of nominations and thousands of eventual votes. She also confirms that corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available, with sponsorship packages being structured to fit the specific budgets and objectives of each sponsor.
