Promoting the Ghanaian culture and safeguarding security in Terminal Three (T3) at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), the Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda has directed that the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) to modify the T3.
On the occasion of the aviation sector strategic meeting in Peduase on Wednesday, the Minister said “the fact that on arrival, one walks straight into a crowd of people waiting outside, without a ‘tunnel’ or two to distinguish between those who have goods to declare and those who do not have any, is simply not an acceptable.”
“…there is no separate ‘route or tunnel’ to give ‘waiters or meeters’ to identify the incoming passenger as they exit, clearly falling below global standards of passenger safety and security and therefore need some work to improve on these facilities,” he added.
Ghanaian Culture
Adda further required GACL to ensure that the modification takes into consideration the need to add a Ghanaian touch to the structure.
The terminal in its present form, looks foreign and lacks indigenous touches that would make it Ghanaian.
“Also , given that the need to appreciate our Ghanaian culture that is so well loved globally again, it is incumbent upon us to add some Ghanaian art and culture each as ‘Adinkra” symbols and our national colours to both the airside and landside areas of terminal three.”
Headquarters of GCAA
The Minister has hinted that President Akufo-Addo will soon be cutting sod for the construction of a modern headquarters building for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) as well as the development of the North Apron at the Kotoka International Airport, which can hold about 14 aircrafts.
