The 8th Borderless Alliance Conference for the West African sub-region would be hosted in Accra from the 24th to 26th April, 2019.

The purpose of this year’s conference is to ensure sustained advocacy on trade facilitation, regional integration and ease of doing business in West Africa, where participants, decision makers and trade experts will discuss how to improve their businesses and create a more enabling business environment across the region.

This was announced by Borderless Alliance National Committee President, Ghana, Mr. Ziad Hamoui at a media launch of the conference last Thursday in Accra.

He said a number of major policy interventions have ensued during past conferences that have led to major reductions in checkpoints, delays and road governance activities which have contributed significantly to the free movement of goods and people along the West African corridor.

“A number of interventions such as the deepening and streamlining the implementation of various ECOWAS trade protocols such as ETLS, Axle load implementation and Joint Border Posts have all become a feature of the success of the Annual Borderless Conferences”, he added.

This year’s conference is under the theme “Facilitating Intra-Regional Trade in West Africa: Emerging Trends.” and is expected to draw participants from the region’s leading trading companies, transport and logistics companies, financial institutions with representatives from ECOWAS, UEMOA and ministries from West African states.

Borderless Alliance is a private sector-led regional advocacy group that promotes regional economic integration and the free movement of goods and people in West Africa, by tackling barriers to regional trade and transport.

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), for over a decade, has been the institutional host and key partner of the Borderless Alliance in Ghana. The two organisations have over the years collaborated to ensure the deepening and strengthening of trade facilitation measures along the major corridors of Ghana and West Africa for the benefit of shippers, transporters, governments and other road users.
