The Sunyani Municipal Assembly (SMA) has called on traders and businesses in the Municipality to cooperate with the upward adjustment of rates.
The slight increase from GH¢ 0.50 to GH¢ 1, according to the city authorities is to enable the assembly to improve on its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to address the development needs of the people.
Francis Ashamata, the Head of the Revenue Unit of the Assembly said the increment took effect from January 1, 2019.
The advice follows complaints by petty traders and market women in the Municipality over the increment of the tax, which according to them was too much bear.
But, Mr Ashamata said the slight increment in the taxes was agreed at stakeholders meeting on the Assembly’s review of its fee fixing resolution.
He said the Assembly had finalised processes and very soon it would improve on the poor condition at the Sunyani main market.
Mr Ashamata advised the traders to endeavour to pay their taxes and rates, and help check revenue collectors against fraud so that the assembly could generate the required revenue needed for development.
Meanwhile reports indicate that traders consistently complained over the lack of space, and appealed to the assembly to expand facilities at the market.
There are also complains about the lack of improved sanitary facilities, and dilapidated structures as well as high vehicular and human traffic congestion.
