Six Ghanaian female insurance professionals have been named among several other Africa women as “Female Trailblazers of the African Insurance Industry” by the African Insurance Bulletin at the just ended African Insurance Organization conference in South Africa.
Top on the list is Elizabeth Wyns-Dogbe, Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance Company. Wyns-Dogbe is a Chartered Insurer and the Managing Director of a leading and the only state owned life insurer in Ghana.
The publication also stated that Elizabeth Wynes-Dogbe is skilled in both life and non-life insurance business with great strength in business strategy, business analyses, restructuring company directory, insurance operations, business and product development, bancassurance partnership, microinsurance, and mobile insurance development and implementation. She spearheaded the design and implementation of one of Ghana’s first mobile microinsurance products which could be bought, managed and claimed all through the mobile money wallet. She was also key in the development of insurance solution for fisher folks along the coast of Ghana with the aim of expanding financial inclusion to the underserved.
The next Ghanaian is Jacqueline Benyi, Managing Director of Enterprise Life, now the largest life insurer in Ghana. She joined Enterprise Life from it inception in 2001, and has over 17 years working experience in life insurance administration with fourteen years in leadership positions.
A Chartered Insurer and an Associate of CII U.K she also has an Advanced Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting (DLDU) and an Advanced Diploma in Life and Disability Claims (DLDC) from the Assurance Medical Society of London. These qualifications currently make her the first and only professional life underwriter and life claims accessor in Ghana.
Boatemaa Kakra Duffuor-Nyarko is the next lady from Ghana honored by the magazine. She is the Executive Director, Star Life Assurance Company Limited and the first and only female Actuary in Ghana. Prior to joining Star Life she worked with QED Actuaries and Consultants.
The three other ladies who were named trailblazers in Ghana include Lena Adu-Kofi, first female insurance broker in Ghana and first Ghana Insurance Brokers Association President with nearly 32 years of management, leadership and industry experience 30 of them with the Insurance Industry. She is a Co-founder and Chief Executive of Safety Insurance Brokers Limited. She is also the first woman to be licensed as an Insurance Broker in Ghana.
The other is Mercy Eunice Kyei the first female Chartered Insurer in Ghana. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Boaitey and Associate Insurance Brokers. She is one of the oldest leading Practitioners in the Local Insurance Industry. She has about 48 years insurance experience starting from 1971 and still counting.
Eunice Kyei is an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London having qualified by examination 1972 and a fellow of Charted Insurance Institute of Ghana. She goes down in history as first woman in Ghana to obtain ACII.
The other is Aretha Duku who is the 4th female President in the history of AIO. She is the Managing Director of Ghana Union Assurance Company and President of Ghana Insurers Association (GIA). According to the African Insurance Bulletin her 23 years work experience spans Insurance, Reinsurance, Financial Services, Consulting and Marketing in South Africa, Europe and West Africa.
