…assures customers of upholding high security standards
Zenith Bank Ghana, has obtained both the ISO 27001 certification covering the Bank’s Information Technology Department, Cards Services Department and its Data Centre as well as the PCI-DSS certification, covering its Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
The achievement means, Zenith Bank has made major strides in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in the implementation of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that is acquiescent with the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC 27001:2013) as well as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification.
The event
At a brief ceremony to award the bank with the certifications, MD/CEO of Zenith Bank Ghana, Mr. Henry Oroh, said, “these exploits are being attained at a significant time in the Bank’s history when we are celebrating 13 years of operation in the Ghanaian banking sector.”
Zenith Bank’s commitment to investing in the best technology has produced for the bank a robust digital banking infrastructure, complemented by the best card products on the market, covering debit, pre-paid and credit cards from Visa and MasterCard.
“While this is a significant milestone for us, it is the beginning of a long journey to enhancing the bank’s information security status and capability in the wake of rising cyber fraud in the country” he stated.
Relevance of certification
The certification among other things is expected to improve the bank’s security posture by minimizing the exposure to risks, the brand perception and customer privacy protection.
Information Value Chain Consulting and Capacity Building Firm, Digital Jewels Limited, consultant for the certification, said, the achievement by Zenith Bank, will improve the bank’s information security and assurance posture, close vulnerability profile and enhance the technology delivery capacity of the bank.
Digital Jewel’s CEO, Mrs. Adedoyin Odunfa, said, “the qualification is achieved through painstaking diagnostics, informed direction setting through a holistic capacity development.”
“Zenith Bank has chosen to take IT as a strategic enabler and without doubt, the bank will reap the benefits of this action,” she added.
In differentiating itself in the banking industry, Zenith Bank, has, since February this year, met BoG’s GHS400 million capital requirement 10 months ahead of the December 2018 deadline.
