The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Union Workers (ICU) is urging government not to open the floodgates of employment in the public sector once the country disengages from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout programme.
Solomon Kotei, said government must have fiscal discipline and not engage in budget overruns adding that the public sector wage bill has at sometime risen to 65 percent of tax revenues, adding in 2017 the wage bill was expended on some 650,000 people working in the public sector.
He said with such heavy sums spent on paying workers bill, other areas get stifled of development injuring the homegrown development agenda.
Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo has warned that boards and their heads who are engaged in turf wars will be booted out without mercy irrespective of the personalities involved.
He made the call at the 2019 performance contract signing with the boards represented by Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo cited the example of the dissolution of the Cylinder Manufacturing Company board which was disbanded by the president when leadership and members on the board clashed too many times for productive work to be undertaken.
The president, he said half way through his mandate was determined to fulfil obligations to the citizens without getting distracted by the antics of the boards.
