…launches 2018 week celebration
The Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), has said it will by the end of this year, present to Parliament a bill to be eventually passed into the Accountants’ Law.
The law, ICAG explained, will enable it to effectively and adequately regulate activities of all trained and professional accountants in the country.
“It is a move to wield extra power to control our members while being able to withdraw licenses of accountants who engage in unethical practices and to help government fight corruption”, ICAG’s President, Mr. Christian Sottie told the Goldstreet Business at the launch of the 2018 Accountants’ Week Celebration in Accra.
He explained that ICAG has been following with keen interest, government’s efforts in fighting corruption and as such, there is the need for the institute to join the campaign since accountants must be at the forefront of accountability.
“It is therefore in this light that we have chosen as our theme for this year’s celebration: ‘Professional Collaboration against Corruption in Ghana, with an interesting perspective of drawing support from other professional bodies such as doctors, lawyers and the police to form linkages to fight corruption,” he added.
Activities lined up for the event includes a two-day conference slated for May 30-31st, 2018 at the Accra International Conference Centre, AICC. on the topics, Changing Phase of e-Commerce, Moving management of the Economy from Taxation to Production, and the Implementation of IPSASs in Ghana: The journey so far.
On the limited infrastructure facilities available to the institute, Mr. Sottie disclosed that there are ongoing discussions with the Educational Ministry on how to access government’s support to augment ICAG’s infrastructure deficit.
