…initiative to employ 100,000 graduates
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said unemployed graduates who sign up to the Nation Builders Corps programme will begin work by August.
The initiative, the President noted is designed to enable young graduates assist in the administration of the public-sector service delivery.
Launching the NABCO in Kumasi as part of the May Day celebrations, President Akufo-Addo noted that central to the objective of the programme is the utilization of the talents of unemployed graduates who have completed their national service and but have not landed a permanent job for their livelihood.
The NABCO programme is aimed at addressing livelihood empowerment and graduate unemployment and is expected to hire about 100,000 graduates.
The programme which is centered on enhancing public service delivery in the health, education, agriculture and sanitation sectors, seeks to drive revenue mobilization and collection.
NABCO’s central focus, the President said, would be to create employment avenues and opportunities for young people who hold diplomas or degrees from accredited tertiary institutions, adding that “NABCO will enhance the dignity and self-esteem of our graduates, and will also present them with the added benefit of efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of essential public services.”
Successful applicants under the programme, would be employed under seven modules including Civic Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Enterprise Ghana, Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana and Digitise Ghana for three years, with a GHS 700 stipend every month.
The President was optimistic that by the time NABCo trainees exit the scheme, the requisite work ethics, skills and experience often being the barrier for their employment as fresh graduates would have been resolved.
Application process of the programme, will end on June 1, with training and facilitation expected to end by July 1, and deployment of trainees by August this year.
