One thousand five hundred recruits of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) have been deployed to work under the Enterprise Ghana module, Deputy Minister of Industry, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay has said.
The recruits, the Minister disclosed, will serve within the Standardized Ghana concept which is categorized under the Enterprise Ghana module.
“The concept is to ensure standards and maintain quality assurance to enhance trade and deepen the country’s industrialization agenda,” he maintained.
Speaking to the Goldstreet Business to mark the 10th year of trade facilitation by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Swiss government and government of Ghana in Accra, Ahomka-Lindsay reiterated government’s commitment in maintaining standards and quality in trade with the international community.
Areas of deployment
The 1,500 recruits according to the Minister, will be distributed to work in agencies such as the Ghana Standard Authority, Ghana Exports Promotion Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, Factories Inspectorate and the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Agriculture Ministry.
“We have realized that Ghana’s industrialization programme can only be achieved when we emphasize on quality assurance and standards in trade. There’s therefore the need to deploy such numbers to consolidate the national effort,” the Minister explained.
Clarifying the partnership between Ghana and the Swiss government, Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay said the Swiss government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), have always been interested in providing sustainable support and opportunities for Ghana.
The Swiss Ambassador
Swiss Ambassador, Mr. Markus Dutly, said the Swiss government will continue to collaborate with Ghana on strategic fronts for the benefit of the two countries.
He said the Swiss government will further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries in other sectors to add to the gains achieved in the mining and cocoa sectors.
The event
The event was to deepen the relationship between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with support from the Swiss government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The programme marked a joint cooperation towards improving quality trade facilitation within the last decade.
