Deputy Managing Director of Consolidated Bank in a town hall meeting with staff has stated that two workers it inherited from one of the defunct banks have stolen GHS200,000.00 with plans of going into the car retail business.
Mr. Tiaru also mentioned that 5 fraud cases had been recorded since the takeover adding new employees have not been taken on yet as a validation process is ongoing.
The two accused Bobic Kwamena Yeboah and Prince Ababio have been charged on three counts of stealing and conspiracy.
An Accra Circuit Court proceeding showed the two; Bobic and Prince from the defunct Beige Capital Bank as Bullion Teller and Cash Boy respectively fearing for their job loses conspired and stole an amount of GHS200,000.00 from the Consolidated Bank.
It took the vigilance of a supervisor who opted to do recount after Bobic deposited money to find out the theft.
The Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited is a fully indigenous bank that is 100% owned by the Government of Ghana. The bank says it is well capitalised in excess of the new capital requirements of the Bank of Ghana. The bank has a stated capital of GHS450 million, a branch network of 175, with presence in nine (9) regions of Ghana. Daniel Addo is the Chief Executive Officer of the new bank.
