The Market Hub of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has been shortlisted for the 2018 World Trade Promotion Organization (WTPO) Awards scheduled for October 25, 2018 in Paris, France.
According to the International Trade Centre, the awards was instituted to focus on Trade Promotion Organizations (TPO) that are excelling in innovation and effective practices in supporting export development. The awards are also designed to recognize excellence in the area of national trade promotion support services.
Speaking at a conference which brought together major players in the national exporting community in Accra on Wednesday, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GEPA, Mr. Samuel Dentu said that his outfit is proud of the feat achieved.
“The awards celebrate TPO that excel in innovative and effective practices in export development initiatives. We are very proud to be shortlisted,” Dentu said. Throwing more light on the development, he added that its exciting and refreshing to be shortlisted because “we put both exporters and importers together”.
Launched in December 2017, the Market Hub and the exporters portal is an integrated online marketing platform that is designed to give exporters, international buyers and the public the requisite information to enable them do business in Ghana.
Categories
The GEPA Market Hub is among 11 TPO to be shortlisted for the awards. Fellow continental counterparts, Nigeria, Egypt and Mauritius have also been selected, bring the total selected TPO in Africa to four.
The awards are in three categories: best use of partnership, best use of initiative and best use of information technology which has nominated GEPA Market Hub and Swiss Global Enterprise.
Countries in the best initiative category include Egypt, Nigeria, Mauritius, Mongolia and Peru.
The best use of partnership consisted of four countries namely, Advantage Austria (Austria), Palestine Trade Centre (State of Palestine), Korea Trade-Invest Promotion Centre (South Korea) and Qatar Development Bank.
The awards started in 2004 and has since recognized TPOs who have distinguished themselves in innovation and excellence in their various sectors.
