Following the groundbreaking ceremony by the Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, the construction of a new the Kotoka International Airport’s (KIA) Northern Apron project as well as the headquarters for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The “Northern Apron”, to be constructed for KIA, would have the capacity to accommodate 14 aircrafts of varying sizes. The apron would serves as an area for airport where aircrafts will be parked, unloaded refueled, or boarded.
The GCCAA headquarters is an eight-storey in an area of about 9,300 metre square. This would have spaces for offices, underground parking floor, data centre infrastructure facilities, cafeteria, gym and nurse station.
The apron, would create space to accommodate more aircraft with the vision of growing aviation traffic in the country whereas the new GCAA block would give the authority adequate space to work effectively.
The two projects are expected to be completed within 24 months.
The projects is expected to further the government’s vision to expand the frontiers of the aviation sector towards making Ghana the aviation hub in the sub region.
The Minister indicated that there are plans to ease traffic congestion in the Airport City enclave through the expansion of the road network as well as the introduction of light rail and other means of transport.
