The Universal Wonderful Street Academy, (UWSA) has supported the celebration of the maiden ‘Year of Return’ in Jamestown.
The event which was marked on the March 6, 2019, coincided with Ghana’s independence celebration and was in collaboration with the Gamashie Dance Theatre.
Notable displays including traditional music, dance, drama, comedy and acrobatics were performed by the children to delight the crowd.
According to Director of the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, Louis Yeboah Womder Doe, the event was meant to mark the 200-year of an end to slavery in Jamestown.
“The event is to bring unity among the rest of the world and to deepen the African culture while celebrating our ancestors for their resilience and determination in their difficulties” he said.
The event was also used to educate the children of the academy on the need to unite for progress in line with UWSA’s motto which states, “let the world support one another”.
Mr. Womder Doe however said, the event will be hosted every year to bring all artistes together and to empower the younger generation to give their best to ensure societal growth.
“Next year, we will host same event, and we hope that corporate institutions and philanthropists will support the children to make the event a success”, Louis said.
