Member of Parliament for Bosome-Freho Constituency in the Ashanti Region; Hon. Joyce Adwoa Akoh Dei has extended electricity to some 34 villages in the Constituency in addition to installing streetlights in some areas.
Hon. Dei submitted the situation where some residents of the constituency lived in darkness affected her especially when they asked if they weren’t citizens of the land.
“I urge constituents to be patient and trust me to bring development initiatives to the town and villages. The electricity will provide jobs to some of the residents like selling of water, ice cream enable them operate cold stores, run corn mills and enter many other ventures,” she declared.
The MP assured the people the major stretch linking the town will be constructed before year 2020 to reduce travel time and boost economic activity as the constituency is a cocoa and timber producer.
She added it was her hope that the power extension will enhance Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T) education as well as reduce teenage pregnancy in the villages.
Residents expressed joy with the power, thanking the Member of Parliament on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket for her effort.
“At first we travelled to far way towns to charge our phones which comes at a cost (GHc2) per phone,” a resident mentioned.
Prior to the arrival of the power, one of the residents stated iced water has not been enjoyed before adding they don’t get to watch television, play music, sell iced kenkey or get to preserve their left over food in the refrigerator.
In session for the inauguration and durbar was Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Power; William Owuraku Aidoo who urged constituents to take advantage of the available power by starting a productive venture.
District Chief Executive; Hon. Yaw Danso expressed joy with the power supply as some residents in the community are local rice farmers but due to electricity unavailability had to carry the rice to faraway places to mill noting factories will soon be established to dehusk the rice.
