The W.E.B Du Bois Centre and the Accra Technical University (ATU) with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will host the 4th Fashion and Clothing Show at the Du Bois Centre.
The event which is slated for May 18-19, 2018, is intended to commemorate this year’s African Union Day, with the theme; ‘Sustaining Africa’s Authentic Fashion and Clothing Industry’.
Deputy Director at the Du Bois Centre, Akofa Dokosi told the Goldstreet Business that the programme will officially open on Friday, May 18, with art, craft, clothing and indigenous food exhibition and its climax being a fashion show on Saturday, May 19.
“We’ll have the Tourism Minister, Mrs. Catherine Abelema Afeku opening the event on Friday before any other event begins” she said.
About 230 final year students of the Fashion, Design and Textile Department of the Accra Technical University are expected to take part in the show, as the event forms part of their academic work and exams.
Madam Dokosi however explained that though the occasion will congregate 80 percent of students, invitations have been extended to officials from the Tourism Ministry, members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as fashion and art enthusiasts.
“ATU has been doing this event on their own but we have partnered them to make this year’s, which is the 4th edition, more elaborate. The programme also forms part the Ministry’s agenda of ‘Wear Ghana’, which is designed to promote locally manufactured costumes,” she indicated.
