The 4th edition of the Ghana Mining Industry Awards has been launched in preparation for the grand ceremony in November as part of the 90th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
The event recognizes excellence and the contribution of mining companies and individuals to the development of the country. The awards categories include Best performance environment, Best performance social responsibility, Best performance occupational health and safety, and Best performance engineering. The institution of the mining industry awards adds up to the chamber’s biennial mining conference and exhibition, the Mining Summit which is held to forge partnerships with counterparts from other parts of the world.
It also helps to reposition Ghana as the gateway for mining investment and business opportunities in West Africa and to connect mining companies with investors, suppliers and government officials to explore the vast mining and development opportunities.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines which has initiated the program said it would continue to work with government and stakeholders to reinforce the successes and impact of the industry in the development process of the country.
The Chamber of Mines at the recent launch of the anniversary called on the state to play its role as a facilitator and a partner of the industry to harness the varied opportunities in the sector.
The president of the Chamber Kwame Addo-Kufuor, who made the call, said the chamber was keen on making public the opportunities in the mining sector to benefit Ghanaian businesses and institutions as demonstrated through the recent launch of the local content portal.
