The Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Post, James Kwofie has revealed that some 5,200 properties have so far been tagged to the Digital Property Addressing System which was launched in October, 2017.
Also, over 7.5 million people have used the Ghana Post GPS address system in search for locations across the country, while one million persons have downloaded the online application.
He said over 1,000 items have so far been delivered by Ghana Post, using the digital address system and that further plans are being pursued to make it easier for the company to deliver items to people in their homes.
Ghana Post, Kwofie disclosed, currently intends to tag all Senior High School (SHS) buildings with digital addresses in a bid to provide schools with efficient postal services. The exercise is meant to cover all schools under the Ghana Education Service (GES).
New routes have been added to the company’s roster in the delivery of items to persons in Bolgatanga, Tamale, Aflao and Yeji; additionally, a visibility office has been developed to track the delivery of items across the country.
‘’The company has procured 22 new vehicles to ensure efficiency in our services in embarking on the new additional routes,’’ Kwofie added.
He said the company has developed an offline application available for download, which is capable of generating digital addresses.
The Acting Managing Director, during a media interaction on Thursday in Accra, further disclosed that the company in 2017 registered 25 percent increase in revenue; the most significant, since 2012.
‘’We plan to double that revenue within the next four years by introducing some new initiatives to allow us make much profit as recorded last year,’’ he noted.
Some of the initiatives to be undertaken this year, according to him will be to relaunch parcel services, introduce an e-commerce service, expand electronic services, introduce agency banking services and capital injection for investment.
Despite the successes, Mr Kwofie said the company currently owes a sum of US$800,000 in legacy debts and is currently in talks with government to help pay the debts.
He said the World Bank Group, through the Ministry of Communications, will offer funding to renovate and build some more post offices across the country.
‘’The Ghana Post GPS is gradually receiving acceptance by many people in the country, and the company will continue to create awareness about the service and also encourage its usage,’’ he concluded.
