The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah has called on third party contractors to adhere to the newly instituted ‘’Code of Conduct’’ manual to promote accountability during pre-contract to execution of projects.
The Code of Conduct manual was launched in Accra last week to establish and guide the behavioral standards, ethics and conduct of staff, organisations, individuals and Third Party Contractors particularly.
The services of Third Party Contractors are engaged in the construction of electrical infrastructure, substations and networks.
Boakye-Appiah in an interview with Goldstreet Business said to promote accountability and integrity in service delivery to customers, his outfit will ensure that these rules and guidelines are enforced by project supervisors, managers and engineers in adhering to pre-contract to contract execution rules as well as closure.
He noted, over the years, some contractors irrespective of political partisanship have breached the various code of conducts.
‘’The code of conduct has been in existence but has been defragmented hence we have consolidated and instituted one by form of manual to guide our staff, individuals and third party contractors.’’
In that regard, he said the company will hold periodic audits of ongoing contracts to identify the extent to which the code of conduct is adhered to.
‘’We are also going to motivate third party contracts by way of sanctions and rewards and so those who we observe are adhering to sanctions will be recognized and rewarded,’’ he stated.
He added, provision has been made for appropriate sanctions to be applied in cases where a Third Party Contractor, organisation or staff is found to be inconsistent with the code.
To improve on the quality of customer service and the image of the company, The Managing Director said the company would not renege in working towards its obligation of providing safe and quality electrical services to support the economic growth of the country.
