The Energy Commission has graduated 994 certified electrical wiring professionals and inspectors, who have excelled in various categories of the May/June 2018 electrical wiring examination.
The 994 professionals represented some 67 percent of a total number of 1,450 candidates who registered and sat for the exams.
Out of the 994, 645 are domestic electrical wiring experts, 300 are commercial wiring experts, 35 of them being industrial wiring experts while 14 are inspectors.

The ceremony which marks a decade of the programme, brings to total, some 7,018 certified electrical wiring professionals and inspectors in Ghana.
The Energy Commission indicated that about 4,275 of the number are certified to undertake domestic electrical wiring, 2,265 are certified to undertake commercial wiring, with 370 being licensed for industrial wiring purposes. 108 of them have been certified electrical wiring inspectors as well.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Accra, Deputy Director, Nuclear and Alternative Energy at Energy Ministry, Dr. Robert Sogbadji reiterated that government has the overall ambition to bring sanity into how electrical wiring is conducted nationwide.
“It is for this purpose that the Energy Commission has, for the last five years, been active and concerned about the kinds of people who are permitted to undertake and operate in the sensitive position as wiring professionals,” he said.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Alfred Ofosu Ahenkorah, emphasized on the commission’s resolve to ensure that all facilities in the country, are respectively wired and inspected by certified wiring professionals and inspectors.
“The electrical wiring guidelines has been reviewed and in the draft stage, awaiting stakeholder inputs. We expect to begin registration of electrical contractors and implementation of the framework in the first quarter of 2019,” he disclosed.
The Commission’s Programmes Officer, Stephen Yamoah, said the certification programme is designed to give confidence to wiring professionals and inspectors to be in full control of the profession.
“The certification enhances professionalism and gives the public reasons to engage those who have obtained certification,” he noted.
