Management of La Community Bank (LCB), Accra has awarded scholarships worth GHS32, 000 to 19 students from the La community.
The scholarship, according to the bank, is to finance their education at the tertiary and SHS levels for the 2017/2018 academic year, without any financial burden.
“So far the bank has sponsored 144 students since the inception of the awards. On this occasion, we are offering financial support to 19 students; 15 for tertiary and four students in the Senior High School level, totaling GHS 32,000 for the 16th batch of the awards this year,” Mr. Peter Tehoda, MD, La Community Bank, told Goldstreet Business.
He disclosed that the scholarship which is in collaboration with the La Mansaamo Kpee (LMK) has been ongoing for the past 15 years.
“The LCB and LMK are proud to be associated with the development of La and continuously proud to be investing in the future of the young leaders of this community – the youth who deserve to be educated whether they have the financial means or not,” Mr. Tehova said.
He asked indigenes of La and its environs to continuously do business with the bank, adding; “keep your accounts with us, invite your families to do business with, we are 30 years old in the banking business and we are safe and reliable.”
Chairman of the LCB/LMK scholarship Awards Committee, Rev. B.Y. Quarshie, noted that selection of beneficiaries for the award is solely based on merit.
He explained that the committee sends notices to every clan and family in La including all churches, calling for application for the scholarship.
“Selection is therefore based on merit and those who really deserve to be supported. After that, the committee agrees on the number of students and the awards are finally offered,” he said.
The Chairman of La Mansaamo Kpee, Mr. Amarkai Amarteifio, who doubles as the Director of the Bank said it is their expectation that through the support, the students will return home after their studies to help develop the community and the La Township.
“As we support you, we are also expecting that you also support La community by applying the benefit you have received from us into something positive for the community,” he emphasized.
