As part of its capacity building plan to aid the mobility of operational activities of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has made available 12 vehicles to the Commercial Loss Control Unit of the ECG. They comprise 12 Cross country vehicles, made up of ten 4×4 double cabin pick-up vehicles each equipped with a tool box installed in its bucket and two 4×4 double cabin pick-up trucks.
The vehicles and their accessories are valued at US$477,880 and forms part of efforts to improve and strengthen the commercial activities of the unit.
The Chief Executive Officer of MiDA, Martin Esson-Benjamin during the ceremony noted: ‘’It is our expectation that these vehicles and equipment procured with the compact’s funds will assist the Loss Control Unit to hone in on specific areas with the highest commercial losses and to curtail losses.’’
In that regard, Esson-Benjamin announced that in the coming months, MiDA will use a portion of its compact funds to procure the services of a contractor to commence work on the construction of the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point.
He noted that upon completion, the Bulk Supply Point will improve the reliability of power supply to Pokuase, Nsawam, Kwabenya, Ofankor and parts of Achimota and Adenta.
‘’Lands for these projects have already been secured with support from the Lands Commission,’’ he added.
Eson-Benjamin held that under the Low Voltage Verification Project of the Ghana Power Compact, MiDA is working closely with ECG to upgrade and improve the existing networks at Achimota, Dansoman and Kaneshie Districts.
‘’Bids for these projects will be launched in the coming months and we hereby encourage the participation of local contractors and suppliers in recognition of the local content law,’’ he stated.
The Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah expressed gratitude to MiDA for providing the vehicles to support and improve its mobility of revenue protection activities of the power sector.
‘’I wish to thank and assure our colleagues at MiDA that all resources that have been deployed under the allocation of the US$350 million Ghana Power Compact will be put to good use in order to achieve the objective and purpose of which its intended.’’
