350-Ghana Reducing Our Carbon (350-GROC) an anti-climate change organization has asked the government to act on its commitment to go 10 percent renewable energy by the year 2030.
The organization noted that more than 20 years of international climate negotiations has not been enough to keep the planet from warming as climate impacts in Ghana and Africa continue to escalate.
350-GROC at a press engagement on Thursday March 21, 2019 during the Africa Climate Week 2019 in Accra, commended government for committing to a fossil free Ghana but maintained that the agenda must be implemented by 2030.
The event was held intermittently with a peaceful demonstration to governments and policy and decision makers on the continent to walk the talk and act on issues of climate change.
Addressing the participants, 350-GROC’s Coordinator, Portia Adu-Mensah said, “there’s no other way to stop climate breakdown, we must keep fossil fuel in the ground and transition towards 100 percent renewable energy for all as soon as possible”.
She explained that the changing of the target year for achieving 100 percent renewable energy from 2020 to 2030, should prepare government enough to attain such status in the next eleven years.
The event was in collaboration with the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance, African Youth Institute on Climate Change in Zimbabwe and the Youth Climate.
