The fourth domestic airline to operate in the country’s air space is set to come on-stream in February, the Deputy Minister for Aviation, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has disclosed.
The Deputy Minister made this known to the Goldstreet Business in an exclusive interview.
Three domestic airlines, Africa World Airline (AWA), Passion Air and Unity Air. Currently operates in the country, but two more operators are expected to start before the end of the year.
There are indications that the expected airline would be the Baby Jet Airline, since it had started it certification process early last year.
The move will enhance the capacity of the domestic flights to take on tourist as part of the ‘Year of Return’ which marks 400 years when the first black African slaves arrived in the USA.
Operating Airlines
Africa World Airline (AWA) has recently taken delivery of its 6th new and modern ERJ 145LR jet with the expectation to receive more and bigger aircraft in the coming year.
AWA operates flights to four cities in country namely Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi, Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria as well as to Monrovia in Liberia. It is expected that the airline will expand its operations to Sierra-Leone and Cote d’Ivoire soon.
Passion Air, has taken delivery of its first 78 seater aircraft, Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 which paves way for the airline to begin domestic operations.
Presently, PassionAir, operates flights to Kumasi, Tamale, and Takoradi.
