The Chiefs and people of Tikrom in the Ashanti Region have expressed joy at the carting away of organic and plastic waste at a dumpsite which reports suggest has been around for a century.
Typical of unmechanised waste collection centres, residents have had to live with unbearable odour from the dumpsite as well as suffering from unforgiving mosquitoes, houseflies and other winged insects as well as mammals who trod the place to feed.
Tikromhene Nana Oti Awereh; expressed relief of no longer having the dumpsite in his jurisdiction which accounted for several diseases of his subjects.
Nana Awereh noted his palace had sent numerous correspondences to the Ejisu Municipal Assembly but no action was taken till he had to personally demand the evacuation of the waste from his territory.
Assembly Member for Tikrom Electoral Area, Madam Stella Oduro Boateng expressed gratitude to Nana for helping dispose off the waste which was a source of agitation of constituents and a huge task on her shoulders.
For the residents, they sang the praise of Nana Oti Awereh and his sub chiefs for their intervention.
It is however unclear, where the carted waste will be relocated to.
