Ghanaians have expressed disgust with the near total power outage in the southern sector on Tuesday through to Thursday morning with many sounding the alarm the authorities better resolve the cause as the discomfort was unbearable.
While the minority in parliament has slammed the current regime for bringing back the intermittent power outages also known as ‘dumsor’, Energy Minister; John Peter Amewu has called on Ghanaians to disregard the minority’s alarmist statements.

Hon. Amewu submits the technical challenges that led to the power outages have been resolved adding the ministry and its agencies responsible for the production and distribution of power were working assiduously to prevent the occurrence of such extensive outages.
“Definitely because of the construction work (Pokuase interchange) that is ongoing, there is the need for them to halt the transmission of power for this period and so these are some of the problems but my expectation is that it is going to be completed within five days. But we have put in place measures to minimize the impact,” he informed the media at the Pokuase substation on his tour.
Meanwhile the Ghana Grid Company Limited GRIDco has asked new power distributor; Power Distribution Service (PDS) to begin to shed load in some parts of Accra until March 19.
According to GRIDCo, the request to PDS has become necessary due to the diversion 330KV Aboadze-Volta transmission line at Pokuase due to ongoing construction works on that stretch of the road.
A statement by GRIDco on Friday read: “We, therefore, wish to request you to extend the outage on affected PDS MV/LV lines in the corridor to March 19, 2018. The outage should be from 8.00hrs to 18.00hrs each day over the period.”
