Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says government is keen to make the nation’s ports competitive especially the Tema Port. In that regard, an application has been rolled out to ease the undertaking of business.
The Ghana Trade Hub App he stated will allow importers to check the status of their consignment and allow for the paying of duties online.
“With your importer’s declaration form, all you need to do is input the data and you would be shown how much to pay,” he disclosed at the Economic Management Team town hall meeting yesterday.
The app is a useful tool to calculate import duty and taxes for both general goods and used vehicle as well. The Ghana Single Window which the app falls under is a one-stop shop for all trade information exchange and clearance processes. It is also a means to cut down on business time at the port as well as contain corrupt practices inherent at the nation’s key port.
Observers say the national drive to make the port community’s activities paperless is positive for the development of the maritime economy.
