UBA Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) on Monday unveiled the top three winners of 2018 edition of the National Essay Competition for Senior High School students in Accra.
This brings to 15 winners since the inception of the competition five years ago, who are currently at various stages of their education and carrier.
The winner of this edition was Ariff Abudul Sabit from Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) Legon, whereas the first and second runners-up were Manasseh Sampana Nam-Mahime and Nana Adwoa Quayson from St. Thomas Aquinas Senior School and Aburi Girl’s Senior High School.
The winner received US$ 5,000 while the first and second runner-up also received US$ 3,500 and US$ 2000, which would serve as an educational grants to study in any Africa University of their choice.
The other 10 finalist also received participating certificates and laptops, among others.
Speaking at the Climax of the 5th Edition of National Essay Competition Final of UBA Ghana, the Manager Director of UBA Ghana, Isong Udom said, UBA Foundation has so far invested over US$ 150,000 over the past 4 years in the competition.
The competition is a follow up on the Foundation’s Read Africa Initiative, provides a competitive platform to develop the intellectual and writing abilities of Senior High School (SHS) students.

Since the inception of the competition in 2013, participants have increased from 400, to 1,800 in 2017.
