On his three-day official visit to Japan, President Akufo-Addo has secured a US$57 million (¥6.49 billion) grant facility for the rehabilitation of the second phase of the national trunk road, N8.
The visit is at the behest of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In 1994, Japan completed the construction of National Trunk Road N8, through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan (176km) to Ghana but usage over the years roughened up the southern road section comprising the Yamoransato Assin Praso stretch in the Central Region and the Bekwai-Anhwia Nkwanta-Kumasi roads, in the Ashanti Region which the grant will be used to rehabilitate.
Premier Abe also pointed out Ghana’s strategic importance in the West Africa Growth Ring Corridor Development, which is to enhance connectivity and promote economic activities in the sub-region.
President Akufo-Addo seized the opportunity to thank japan for its human development projects such the National KAIZEN Project, the African Business Education Initiative for Youth (ABE Initiative), and the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).
