Donewell Insurance in partnership with Happy FM, last Saturday donated over 100 units of blood to the National Blood Bank.
The blood donation exercise which forms part of the insurance company’s 25th anniversary celebrations in Accra saw staff of the two institutions and volunteers taking part in the exercise.
Seth Aklasi, Chief Executive Officer of Donewell Insurance said the purpose of the exercise forms part of the company’s vision to give back to society as well as save lives at the hospitals.
“Donewell Insurance is 25 years and as part of our anniversary, we decided to give back to society by helping the National Blood Bank increase its stock of blood. We want to contribute our quota to the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians,” Aklasi noted.
He added “Other anniversary activities would include a symposium, donations to selected orphanages, a dinner and awards night and a thanksgiving service. We hope to reach out to all our stakeholders by the end of this anniversary celebrations.”
Head of Marketing and Business Development, Donewell Insurance, Jennifer Bebli, noted “it has been of great concern to us that the National Blood Bank has always faced a shortage of blood so we decided that as part of our way to give back and save lives, we organized this exercise.’’
‘’Since our head office is located in the Osu community, we thought it right to undertake this corporate social responsibility in the community in which we have been operating in these 25 years, she added.
Director at Global Media Alliance Broadcast Company Timothy Karikari, operators of Happy FM stated that blood shortage at the hospitals is a great concern to the radio station hence the decision to organize this important exercise annually.
“We partnered Donewell Insurance because of the trust and confidence they have sustained in their 25 years of service to the people of Ghana,” Karikari disclosed.
He noted, blood cannot be manufactured therefore it is essential for people to donate at least once every three months to help save a life.
“Even one unit of blood is essential so it is important to donate blood to save lives of people” he concluded.
