Nollywood, Entertainment and Leadership Awards (NELAS) 2018 celebrated its 2nd awards edition and dinner night on the December 8, 2018 at the Prestigious Best Western Hotel – Woodford London. The event witnessed sold out tickets of £105 per head for VIP and £50 regular.
It’s was a spectacular night with glamour and elegance where film producers, directors, actors and actresses, radio and television as well as entertainment personalities, and leaders from Nollywood and across the globewere awarded. The awardees for the night included AY of Nigeria and Judith Jacobs of BBC.
Ghana’s Godmother Of dancehall Shegah whose song “Dem Marking Time” entered into the UK reggae and dancehall chart earlier this year claimed an award for the night. Shegah was nominated in three categories including Best Female Artist of the Year which she lost to Jamaica’s Pepper. Her song ‘Murder’ft. Samini and Jupiter which received massive air play on UK television stations was also nominated Best Dancehall Collaboration of the Year.
Shegah’s ‘Dem Marking Time’ track has venom punchlines making other dancehall artists including men in the game shiver in their boots.The song also has a powerful visuals directed by King Luu. Mr. Ricky Brown, the Manager of Magic Records(UK and Europe) who received the award on behalf of Shegah, disclosed to the audience Shegah was pleased and humbled to receive the award.
The president of NELAS Awards, Her Royal Highness Dr. Nnenna Ani on her closing remarks for the night hinted the next edition in 2019 could take place in Europe, America or possibly Nigeria or South Africa.
