The Image Consortium Group has launched the maiden City Construction and Property Award in Accra, to appreciate and reward professionals in the construction industry.
A member of the award’s committee, Mr. Nii Teiko Evans Anfom, Director at Evans- Anfom & Associates, explained that the awards, slated for April 13, 2019, is meant to honour players in the construction industry with focus on building and the architecture sector.
“There is a link between the productivity of a people, the prosperity of a people and the quality of its building, settlement,and spaces,” he said.
He said the awards will look at every activity involved in the construction industries because every category has its peculiar challenges.
“The criteria for winning will basically centre on the lifespan of the various infrastructure facilities that will be under consideration,” he noted.
He added: “we will not organize this award every year, it will be done at least every two years until we have strong causes to do it every year.”
Board chairman of Image Consortium, Mr. Eric Houadjeto, organizers of the awards explained that the categories will come in the form of recreational centers, residents, commercial, gated communities,hospitals, single-family houses, apartment blocks, institutional infrastructures and many more.
He said, “the award will be extended to the districts level engaging the department of rural housing to access constructions at that level.”
Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Mr.Eugene Boakye Antwi addressing dignitaries at the event, noted that it was important that players in the built industry are recognized and encouraged to continuously commit to quality delivery.
He said the Ghana Building Code was launched in November this year to champion the requirements and recommendations of standards in the building industry.
