Multichoice Ghana Limited has introduced a new channel, ROK 3 on its DStv and GOtv platforms to promote Ghanaian movies and music across the continent. Eighty percent of the 24hr channel is dedicated to Ghanaian movies and music.
ROK 3 will showcase selections of Ghanaian movies and TV series, in both English and Twi, during the day and will play African music from 11pm each night.
Launching the channel in Accra, Managing Director of Multichoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa-Mills urged movie producers to take advantage of the platform to sell their work and the Ghanaian culture to the world.
He said “this is a partnership between Multichoice and ROK TV. Over the years, Multichoice has continued to develop not just content in movies but also local content in areas such as sports and music. And we have been able to use our platform to promote talents.”
ROK TV’s representative in Ghana, Abdul Salam Mumuni said the move will help develop the local movie industry, which is currently facing several challenges.
“This is a very good plus to the industry, to have our own channel on DSTV. So anyone who has content should bring it for review,” he noted.
Movie producer, Socrates Sarfo, who welcomed the initiative, however requested that producers whose works are screened be paid promptly to encourage many more to provide content.
