For a second time, Air Namibia has suspended its operations from Ghana, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia, Charles B. Josob has revealed.
This follows barely five months’ when the Airline announced it return to the country aviation sector in March 2019.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Aviation Minister, Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, the High Commissioner explained that the suspension of operations has become necessary due to the lack of passengers on its flights.
This has been caused by the refusal of the Nigerian Embassy to issue VISA to Namibians to travel to Nigeria.
“Primarily, there is a third-party intervention in the form of the Nigerian ambassador, who will not be issuing VISA to Namibians going to Nigeria,” He said.
“This has caused the Airline to really be running at a loss,” he stated.
Air Namibia commenced direct flights from Accra to Johannesburg, South Africa and Windhoek Namibia in 2009. However, in 2014 the Airline had to pull out its operations from the country due to low passenger numbers.
“We have applied for freight freedom license to fly from Windhoek to Accra and to London,” Mr. Josob said.
He noted that this forms part of the country commitment to Ghana.
