General Electric (GE) Healthcare will collaborate with the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to implement the Vscan Access Task Shifting Program across 125 districts in the country.
The program will train and equip healthcare professionals at the primary healthcare level with portable ultrasound.
The initiative is expected to benefit about 1.5 million Ghanaian women by 2020.
Addressing stakeholders and healthcare professionals from GE as well as policymakers, investors and financing institutions in a two-day healthcare dialogue in Accra, Deputy Health Minister, Alexander Abban underscored the need to laud the company for its contributions to the progress of the country’s health sector.
The Minister said it is in the interest of Ghana to partner solution providers such as GE to enable development in the health sector.
Instructively, GE has commenced an investment into provision of comprehensive solutions ranging from diagnostics, imaging and life care solutions, project management and financing support to the Ridge Hospital.
GE is also supplying full range solutions to the 100 bed BoG Hospital through the Universal Hospitals Group, upgrading of key equipment at radiotherapy centre at Korle Bu.
GE will also provide support to the Ghana Infrastructure Rehabilitation programme, where six district hospitals will receive maternal and newborn care solutions.

The conference is expected to drive innovative sustainable healthcare discussions, share insights, product and services and improve the overall healthcare needs of Ghana.
CEO of GE Africa, Farid Fezoua noted that the company is investing about US$20 million in Ghana’s healthcare.
He expressed GE’s willingness to deepen its relations with the Ghana government, private healthcare providers and investors to explore new models for healthcare development.
Sulemana Abubakar, CEO, GE Ghana, said the dialogue by GE in Ghana, will provide the platform for the industry stakeholders to advance the country’s healthcare agenda.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of GE healthcare’s new budget-conscious ultrasound, the Versana Essential.
Key topics discussed include the structuring innovative healthcare financing solutions, Ghana’s vision for Universal Healthcare Coverage, the future of radiology with artificial intelligence, technological innovations among others.
